Overview

The full south, in four days

This is the best route if you want the whole story of southern Morocco — mountains, kasbahs, gorges, and a real night in the Sahara — without doubling back.

You’ll leave the red city of Marrakech and climb the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka pass over the High Atlas, stopping at the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. From there the road runs through the Dades and Todra gorges to Merzouga, where camels carry you into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for a night under the stars. On the final day you head north through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forests of Ifrane to the imperial city of Fes.

It’s a private tour, so the pace is yours — small group, experienced local driver, and plenty of time to stop, photograph, and breathe.

Your itinerary

Everything here is flexible — tell us what you’d like to change.

Leave Marrakech after breakfast and cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with sweeping mountain views. Stop at the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses, then settle for the night in the Dades Valley.

Explore the towering walls of the Todra Gorge, then drive east toward Merzouga. In the late afternoon you meet your camels and trek into the dunes of Erg Chebbi to your desert camp — dinner, Berber music round the fire, and a night beneath the stars.

Wake for sunrise over the dunes, then explore Erg Chebbi by 4×4 — visiting a nomadic family, the Gnaoua musicians of Khamlia, and the desert oasis. Try sandboarding before a second night at the camp.

Head north through the palm groves of the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas. See the Barbary apes in the cedar forest near Azrou, pass through the alpine-style town of Ifrane, and arrive in Fes in the evening, where your driver drops you at your riad.

The landscapes changed completely every few hours. Our driver knew exactly where to stop for photos and quieter moments. A trip we’ll talk about for years.

Sunrise over Erg Chebbi was worth the whole trip. The camp was far more comfortable than we expected, and nothing ever felt rushed.

Booked privately for our family and they adapted the pace for the kids. Honest advice, no hidden costs, a driver who felt like a friend by day four.

Yes. Even standard camps have proper beds and bedding; comfort and premium tiers add private tents with en-suite bathrooms and hot showers.

Completely. Because it’s private, we can add nights, change stops, adjust the pace for families, or run it in reverse from Fes.

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal. Summer is hot in the desert but still runs; winter days are clear and cool.
