The 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes is the perfect option for travelers short on time who still want to experience the magic of the Moroccan Sahara. This express journey allows you to ride camels across the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes, witness a breathtaking desert sunset, and spend the night in a luxury camp under a sky full of stars, all while connecting the two imperial cities.
Although this tour involves a lot of driving, it offers a rich and unforgettable experience in a short timeframe. If you’re looking for a more relaxed pace, we recommend the 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour.
Your journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. We’ll head east through the stunning High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying spectacular views of Berber villages and rugged landscapes along the way.
Our first major stop will be at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah—a historic fortified village recognized by UNESCO and featured in films like Gladiator, Babel, and Game of Thrones. After a panoramic photo stop, we continue our drive toward Merzouga, passing through Ouarzazate, the Draa Valley, and several charming Berber towns.
We’ll stop for lunch along the route before arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon. There, a camel caravan awaits to take you through the enchanting dunes of Erg Chebbi. During the ride, we’ll pause to admire the mesmerizing sunset over the Sahara.
Upon arrival at your luxury desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and shown to your private tent, equipped with all modern comforts. After a traditional dinner, enjoy a lively evening of Berber music and drumming around the fire beneath a blanket of stars.
Wake up early to catch the sunrise painting the desert in golden hues. After breakfast, we’ll return to Merzouga village by 4x4. From there, we begin our scenic drive to Fes.
We’ll pass through the picturesque Ziz Valley, with its lush palm groves and dramatic gorges, and stop for panoramic views along the way. Continuing through the Middle Atlas Mountains, we’ll stop near Ifrane for a chance to see the native Barbary macaques in the cedar forests.
By late afternoon, we’ll reach Fes and drop you off at your hotel or riad in the Medina, concluding your desert adventure.
