Embark on an unforgettable 5-day journey from Marrakech to Merzouga, where you’ll explore the magic of the Sahara Desert. Experience the thrill of camel trekking, admire spectacular desert sunsets and sunrises, and sleep under the stars in a traditional desert camp.
This immersive tour offers a deep dive into the fascinating culture, landscapes, and traditions of southern Morocco. From ancient Berber villages to vast golden dunes, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the life and beauty of the Sahara.
Your tour begins with a pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation. We’ll drive through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, stopping along the way to take in panoramic views and local highlights.
After a leisurely lunch in Ait Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate, we’ll continue through the lush Skoura Oasis and the colorful Rose Valley. In Skoura, you’ll have the option to visit the beautifully preserved Amridil Kasbah.
In spring, the Rose Valley is a vibrant spectacle of blooming flowers. Our day concludes in Dades Gorge, where you'll admire the iconic “monkey fingers” rock formations and relax at a local hotel with dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Tinghir to explore a scenic oasis and discover the region’s rich history — once home to both Berber and Jewish communities. A short walk through the dramatic Todra Gorge, with its towering cliffs, offers a moment of natural beauty before we continue to Merzouga.
We’ll stop for lunch on the way, then arrive at the edge of the Sahara where your camel caravan awaits. Ride into the dunes of Erg Chebbi, stopping atop one of the dunes to enjoy the sunset and try sandboarding.
Later, arrive at your luxury desert camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by an evening of music and storytelling beneath the stars.
Wake up early to enjoy a peaceful sunrise over the dunes before breakfast at the camp. Then begin your day of exploration in a 4x4 vehicle:
Visit a nomadic family living in the desert, where you’ll be welcomed into their tent for a cup of tea and insight into their daily life.
Explore an abandoned mining village in the middle of the desert, home to the Galena mines.
Continue to the village of Khamlia, where you’ll be treated to a performance of traditional Gnawa music by locals of Sub-Saharan descent. Enjoy lunch at a local eatery.
If the nearby seasonal lake is full, we’ll stop there before heading to your riad for the night.
After a peaceful sunrise and breakfast at your riad, we begin the day by visiting the historic town of Rissani. Explore its traditional souk — especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
From there, we travel through the breathtaking Draa Valley, dotted with palm trees and old kasbahs, and pause in Agdez to take in the valley views. By the afternoon, we’ll arrive in Ouarzazate, where you'll enjoy dinner and settle in for the night at a comfortable riad.
Begin the final day of your adventure with breakfast at your riad in Ouarzazate. Known as the "Hollywood of Africa," the city is home to the Taourirt Kasbah and the famous Atlas Film Studios, where many blockbuster films were made.
Next, we head to Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most iconic ksars in Morocco. Protected by UNESCO, this ancient village has appeared in movies like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones.
We’ll then continue through the majestic High Atlas Mountains, stopping to explore the picturesque Kasbah of Telouet before returning to Marrakech. You’ll be dropped off at your accommodation with memories of an extraordinary desert journey.
